Sorry if I'm being stupid, but surely if his parents were both sexlinks then he's a sexlink too, and not a crossbreed?

sex links are hybrids, a cross of 2 certain colors(and usually breeds). You cant breed a sexlink and a sexlink together and have sexlinked chicks. A common cross is a RIR rooster over Delaware hens.

he has the coloring of a red sexlink hen, with shows up when sexlinks are breed together or to RIRs.

this is a red sexlink male, the female chicks are red, and the male chicks are white. When sexlinks are breed together, males and females are varying shades of red/white.
