What is this? Egg Bound?

I know this will be of no consolation to you but one of my girls had an almost exact problem, she was here indoors, given regular baths and I also gave her calcium... she died last night and I am so very upset as one of my Donkeys died yesterday too..... I feel like the grim reaper right now... does a 24 hour cycle get any worse?

I really feel for you and your Daughter... it is so hard sometimes

Suzie, you too. It is so hard to understand why this one and not that one. My thoughts are with you and yours as well and I hope that peace finds you soon.

So sorry for everyone's losses

My 7 month-old Silver Spangled Hamburg "Speckle" just went through the same thing. She survived the laying of the egg (even though it was as big as her head). Now she has a prolapse and may not survive.

Use either honey on her or get some KY jelly and mix it with a 400IU vitamin E capsule. Make sure her vent area is clean and put this one her. This should work in 3 days.

I'm so sorry to read about Mannerless -- yesterday we lost Gladys - our friendliest hen (of course!) :-( This is our first flock of four hens -- she had been periodically laying humongous eggs, recently turned into an egg-eater (shocking to witness), then she was sitting on nest for long periods without any product -- oh, and had diarrhea. My daughter later found her dead out in the run. She's maybe 9 months old. We're super saddened by it. I had not yet heard of egg bound, until today when I found your post. Mac
