What is this hanging out of my chick?

I'm a first time incubator. I incubated 11 eggs and only 1 hatched. It hatched great yesterday afternoon and seems fine now. I just moved it to the brooder. It's chirping and pooping and walking around. The poop is green though. Anyway, it has something hanging off of where umbilical cord was attached. It's starting to dry up now. Is it something I should be concerned about or will it fall off?

Thanks!

that's just it's umbilical cord drying up. Some are just bigger than others. It should dry up and disappear, but I'd keep an eye on it just to be sure cause it's a little bigger than the norm.

Dumb question..Where is the umbicle cord on a baby chick and does it begin to look like a dried up little thread before it falls off?? I had one that had a little thread looking thing hanging and I wondered if that's what it could be. It appeared to be in his vent area. Gone now, but I did wonder. Sorry if this is "hijacking" not my intent

Thanks for your reply! I was really worried at first, but it seems to be doing fine.

Another question, since only one chick hatched, is there anything special I should do for since it's all by itself?

For your single chick, get a feather duster (they works great for more than one chick also). The chick will tuck itself into the duster like a mom (I hang mine close to the heat lamp - but not too close). You can also put a couple cat toys into the brooder for the chick.

Sometimes the umb. cord does look like a thin thread and falls off in a day or so.
