I had my ducklings out in the water and when I picked them up to put them away I saw a hole on the side of her head. The feathers were wet around the area too. It looked like it was in the area where an ear would be. It didn't bother her and I couldn't tell if there was one on the other side because the feathers weren't wet there. This may be common knowledge but I am knew to ducks so please any help.

Also, now that I am at they would also scratch their head with their foot and then they would open and close their mouths a couple of times. They were in the pool at this time too but they used to do this when they were about 1 week old. They were about 2 and a half weeks old now. Wanna make sure my babies are okay.

I can see why seeing the ear for the first time might worry you.. Not seeing it before covered in fluff- it could be a shock. My thoughts on the head scrathing and mouth opening thing they do is that while swimming they may get a bit of water in their ears too... I know when I am swimming and am trying to clear water from my ears- I do open my mouth while shaking it..??? Could be something else- but it makes sense to me.

I thought it would be her ear but just wanted to make sure. That is so werid and totally different than a chicken. LOL, Yah the water in the ear would make a sense as well. That is probably why her ear was noticed to begin with because her feathers were wet causing water to get in!!!! I feel better. I had thought so but needed to make sure. What would I do without ya'll? THANKS. Feel a little dumb right now.
