I don’t know how long this is been in my yard and I would’ve think I would’ve seen it before now if it was very long but I’ve been working a lot of hours. But I found this in my yard. I don’t know if it’s the insides of a small animal predator got in my yard I really don’t know what in the world it is. I wouldn’t think it’s from one of my animals. Does anyone have any idea
I cannot figure out what it is but it looks really gross

I found it right after feeding my animals earlier so I know they’re all good. It almost kind of looks like a stomach and intestines but I really am not sure. But the weird part is there’s no evidence of like one of the rabbits that’s around the yard being killed or anything just that. Not even fur

It very likely is the 'gut pile' from a rabbit. Great Horned Owls kill them and then with almost surgical skill remove the stomach/intestines making the rabbit light enough that they can fly away with the kill. See this all the time at the beagle club. Frequently they will inadvertently drop a feather at the kill site.

That is somewhat creepy and incredibly interesting. I was unaware of that. I just hope it wasn’t clover. I’ve had a baby bunny who was a abandoned living in my backyard. She usually chooses a safe area though. But there’s tons of rabbits around this place. And it’s starting to make sense because about a week ago I noticed every time My rooster would crow then 1 second later horned owl would hoot. And I would laugh because it’s almost like they were talking to each other. Kinda like nearby roosters do but the owl wanted to join

Learn something new everyday! I don’t know necessarily that was the case but it definitely makes the most sense.

And I looked all around the area but I wasn’t really looking for a feather. Whereas I feel like I would’ve noticed one but there was rain and some wind last night so

Because of them massive amount of predators my chickens only get to free range sometimes for an hour or two in the afternoon when I am outside (they have a very roomy run It’s sad but last year I went from 19 to 4 in like 6-8 months. I live right
If extremely hungry, GHO will hunt at daybreak, dusk, and even during the day on heavily overcast days. I've had them take chickens during the day under such circumstances.

next to a 4400 acre conservation area so a lot of predator variety
I do usually have lots of rabbits around my yard
I have recently noticed maybe one or two hawks this year. I don’t usually see those mainly vultures I see. And the owl thing makes more sense since there was no other evidence around. Apparently they’re really good surgeons!
