What is this mass?

This is one of our new Rhode Island Reds that we just got from our local farm store. We noticed th is mass just below her vent today. We are new to raising chickens do any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure but it looks like it's got something to do with the umbilicus. Maybe had a little umbilical hernia? I really don't know. Probably all you can do is keep an eye on it. Is the chick acting normal, eating and drinking and running around, pooping?

Yes, she is eating and drinking normally. She is the smallest one of the bunch if that makes a difference.

I would just keep an eye on her for now, probably not much you can do about it. Might want to keep an eye on all of them, just watch in case the others notice that spot and want to pick at it.

Yeah looks as if the umbilical chord has been knocked as is swollen or something like that.
Keep an eye on her and make sure it doesn't become infected.
