I don't think these are the typical mites we are used to seeing, they are almost impossible to see with the naked eye; but if you look closely at my chickens skin it just seemed to move; which is red and irritated, she's also anemic. Looking closely in an area 2 inches by 2 inches I could see maybe a few hundred of these.
I scraped them on a slide and put it on a microscope and this is what I see on the lowest magnification.


The two tails hairs look like whips and drag when they walk.
I also saw these which I don't think are mites, which look to be winged:

Anyway in an experiment I dropped a drop of Poultry Protector on them under the microscope slide, expecting them to die on the spot like dropping salt on a slug.
Nope, they swam around and had a good ole time enjoying their new pool.
After about 10 minutes, I added D.E. and they died.
I'm on the Florida GA line since location effects mites.
