What is this on his bill???

He may have an infection. Can you get him to a vet?

It may be bacterial or fungal.

I would clean it up with some water, dab just a bit of hydrogen peroxide on it to see if it foams, and quickly rinse the peroxide off to prevent pain if it does foam. Foaming means bacteria.

It could be a scab from an injury, but it any case I would treat it with the appropriate cream (antibacterial or anti fungal) and be on the watch that infection is not in the duck's bloodstream.

Our local vet does not treat birds of any kind, or even small animals (rabbits, etc). I will try that this evening. Should I try and separate him into his own run away from the other ducks?

No, I didn't. I will have to do that tomarrow evening after we get back from town. We were able to get it off his bill, we rubbed a bit of hydrogen peroxide on both spots, then rubbed it with a clean damp cloth, and did that several times. It did smell like some sort of algae or something. I have no idea how long it's been there. I just noticed it today. He is acting just fine, eating, drinking pooping, and running around with everyone else today. Should I separate him by himself? I hate to do that, as he is so attached to the other ducks, but then again if it is an infection I don't want it to spread.

Oh, when we scratched/rubbed the things off it was just like some sort of skin or growth or something of that kind. Any idea how he got it? They've been locked up in a pen, up until two days ago. Stumped

Usually every morning I go into the duck pen, feed and wash their pool out, meanwhile the ducks are running being crazy in a big mob, and I don't usually stay in there. I haven't really handled my ducks, so I just didn't notice it. Then a couple days ago, when I let them out for the first time I was petting him and that sort of thing and I never noticed it. Just yesteday I was watering them in the hot of the day, and I was sitting in the shade by the duck coop, and Inky was still inside so I was talking to him, and I noticed it.

We are going to town today. Is there anything I should try to pick up at TSC for him, that would help? We might be going there.

I like to use Veterycin it's pricey but very safe to use around the face can even spray it in their eyes, when my gander injured his bill on something I sprayed him morn and evening with it and it took about a week for it to heal up. I also put Oxine ah and or ACV into their drinking water which works as an atiseptic .

I will look for it. Plans have changed this morning, so we'll be going tomorrow. Hopefully/ *rolleyes*

Since I'll be home today I'll give him a good go over..
