What is this on the chicken's comb?

I'd go with peck marks/scratches. A couple of mine have pecked eachother and/or got scratched while roaming the the bushes.

It's been below freezing a few nights here as well. On those nights I have been applying bag balm to their combs, wattles and feet to help prevent frostbite. So the next day everyone has dark combs from the dirt sticking to them. lol

I’m keeping an eye on it. Maybe the two are pecking each other? I try to watch, but haven’t seen anything yet. I have heard a few squabble sounds though. Maybe they are quick and do it when I’m not looking. :D

The pictures are a little fuzzy... I would say peck marks (my roosters peck eachother's wattles), dry pox, or sticktight fleas.

Check them closely to be sure they aren’t tiny fleas.

Pics are fuzzy because the chickens are fast. Lol. I know they aren’t fleas. I’m hesitant about the pox because the spots are flat not raised. But, I’m keeping an eye on it see if anything changes.

Good idea. My roosters pick and peck each other, and they get those spots. One of my hens (who spent 3 weeks inside after the dog attack) now has a limp and a turned in foot. But she jumps on those boys and chomps their combs when they get too friendly with her. Lol

It is most likely a scab or result of frostbite. Many of our chickens have gotten those. It is no cause for concern. It does not appear to irritate the chicken at all, although you may need to insulate your coop a little more, or apply Vaseline to their combs and wattles to keep theit combs and wattle warm.

Now that all of my girls are laying I have noticed there is a bit more tension between them. Those high on the pecking order poke at the others when they walk by or sit too close to them on the roost. Lots of changes going on in their roosting behavior right now. If they are just minor scratches or abrasions, they will heal quickly.

My girls came to me from a totally free ranged situation. I don’t think the temps were cold enough for regular frostbite at that time and their spots have actually multiplied especially on Cinnamon. So, not sure what it could be. I’ve looked at other pics and I’ve seen fowl pox, but these are not raised bumps.

What is their current situation? Are they in a well ventilated enclosure? Its the moisture not the cold ....
