Mixed breed. Likely some Barred Rock and Orpington a few generations ago.

Looks like a Buff Orpington + Barred Plymouth Rock. Pretty!

I got him from my husband's co-worker and he has all sorts of pure and mixed breeds. This rooster is quite stately and gentle

Buff Orpingtons are known for their gentle, easy-going natures. Love 'em!

But then again... If I get a chicken, I will name it, hug it and dig up earth-worms for it from the compost pile... no matter what kind.
