Sitting in my room watching one of my roos with his 2 hens and one chick scratching around I saw him call to the hens. They came running and my broody hen grabbed up what I thought was the biggest lizard I've seen around here in a while...So I go out to look at it and it isn't a lizard, but a snake.

I am thinking..rat snake, earth snake.....IDK....What do you think?

Oh my gosh! That is a legless lizard! How cool! I am almost positive that is what it is. Google "legless lizard" and see if you think that might be what it is.

Its a Decay snake, my spelling may be off on this. They are found around old rotting or damp leaves and this is how they got there name.

Legless lizards or glass snakes are a shinny green color.

You should be able to tell if it's a snake of a lizard by looking at its eyelids (or lack thereof)
Lizards have eyelids. Snakes don't.
By the way my daughter, who worked at the zoo here in Portland said she reconizes it a a glass lizard.

The roo scratched it up out of a pine straw pile I had left outside...for weeks LOL

I am going to inspect it more and compare pics..

BTW: It is flicking its tounge like a snake does....
