my 3 year old hen was sitting inside the house and pooped this out. Is it a lash egg?? What do I do now?

Lash eggs are a product of salpingitis (inflammation of the oviduct.) There is no cure or guarantee that antibiotics will help, but if used, amoxicillin or enrofloxacin are the ones commonly used. Many experts say that when you see a lash egg, it is usually too late. But I feel like it could possibly extend life.

Well I would not like to see her suffer. I started on amoxicillin, would it even be worth seeing a vet about this? And if it is too late what are some signs I should look for that it’s gone too far and is the end of her life? If it comes to that, I would get her euthanized but from her behavior she seems fine, I had no idea there was even anything wrong. I understand chickens are good at hiding when they’re in pain.

Salpingitis will eventually kill her one day, but I would just let her live her life from day to day. She may survive for awhile, and enjoy being with her flock. Encourage her to eat a healthy diet. Most don’t know their hens have salpingitis unless they happen to see a lash egg. She may one day not want to eat, or her crop may not empty by the next morning which can lead to impacted or sour crop.
