Could anyone tell me what this is pullorum-typhoid ? How do I get my birds tested for this? No, they do not have it, I want to take some chickens to one of the poultry swaps, but they said we had to have the birds tested for this. Can they test baby chicks for this? Is it expensive?

In Texas the Pullorium test is free, done by the state. Typoid test cost me 25.00. That will certify your whole flock for a year. Of course I had to apply for a 25.00 license from the state to sell away from the yard. The state man makes an appointment, comes out and puts his sterile suit on and starts getting blood from your grown chickens. Just a small drop from each one as you bring them to him. That he then swabs onto a glass and test it. Then you go put that chicken back and get another one till you're done. Nothing to it!

Not expensive at all. There are usually testers on site to test the birds. I see that you're from MN. I have taken birds to swap meets in MN many times, and had them tested on site. The testers will tell you that they have never found an infected bird, and probably never will.
