What is this??

I think the sand should be fine, no need to replace. Any shavings or organic materials should be removed and everything washed out with vinegar water or bleach water and dried out. Spray permethrin spray on the sand if you want to and in the henhouse and wait until it dries. Put new bedding in. The permethrin isn't nessacary, spray it if you want to. This spray is should be good, this is a concentrate, there are instructions to make the mix.

Now that is a relief!! I usually use PDZ and shavings for the egg boxes. Here is the spray I am using now...

It says it is specifically for mites and lice, any experience with this stuff?

The washout with bleach or vinegar water isn't really feasible but I used the spray I have on all the lower parts of the walls, in the egg boxes, and the 2 roost bars which pretty much are the only removable bits.

Great, I think you are set. Your coop should be clean now. Just take care of their feet. I hope they will be perfect and healthy in a few months. Good luck!

If you don't want to do a treatment every day for two weeks, there is a product called Nu-stock. It's 70% sulphur, and it worked within two treatments, even on my worst infection (an EE who lost all the scales on her right leg.) Slather it on once, wait three days, coat everything again. Done.

It is a bit stinky. But I had to do forty-some chickens, and I was not giving everyone vaseline for two weeks.

You can also make your own by mixing sulphur with mineral oil until you get the right consistency.

I had to order it online, as the Rural King was out, and the TSC never carried it. I'm not sure what stores you have locally.

Since it's used to treat "hot spots" in dogs, and also acne (check the amazon reviews), and other skin conditions, I don't think you're going to see side effects. I didn't.

I found the recommendation after searching BYC for a cure, and found this thread. @Beekissed was enthusiastic about it, after using it on a flock of hens. I did not read the whole thread.

Thats awesome, thanks for the info! If my local TSCs have none I'll order it tonight!

Just a quick note about permethrin spray, while it is a great option - it is very toxic to cats! Just keep that in mind when using it.
