Good morning All!
Noticed this on one of my BCM girls. It’s only on the one eye. She’s just under a year old. Behavior hasn’t changed. Still eating and drinking normally.
Thanks in advance.
☺️

Is she having any nasal discharge or discharge from her mouth?I would get a warm cloth and gently wipe the eye. It looks like its stuck shut with crust. Any weird breathing noises?

Thanks for your reply. No discharge, no respiratory sounds or difficulty.

For now I would use a cloth and warm water to clean it. If you can get it open then I would put some terrymycin cream in it. If you dont have any ot cant get any then regular neosporin is fine. Watch for discharge, raspy breathing, or bubble in the eye. She may have been pecked by another chicken.

Looks like favus to me.

It is a type of ringworm and can be transmitted to other birds and humans.

Treatment would be to isolate the infected bird and apply miconazole twice a day until the condition clears.

Please do look it up to see if symptoms match.

I didn't even think of Ringworm! What a PITA! We had a kitten come home with it (she didn't show any symptoms) and spread it to both of our dogs, our other cat, and me! I don't know how it is in birds, but super contagious in the rest of us! Both vet and doctor said we all had a 50/50 chance of natural "immunity"...lucky for us, my husband and 2 kids weren't afflicted, they are so itchy!
