What is this?

My chick has a single comb, so she's not a Wyandotte. I got a mix last year from this place that only orders from hatcheries. The feathering is coming in molted also. I very highly doubt it's a pure bred. I do know with the high volume of chickens at the hatcheries, there are mix ups. My light brahma has some cream colored feathers also. I'm assuming she's a color mix with a buff brahma somewhere in her past.

I don't care about mixed breeds. I hear they are better layers anyways.

My mix is the same size as the EE I hatched 3 weeks ago and has the same amount of feathering.

hatchery wyandottes are nearly never truely laced and are normally mottled.. There are also casses of hatchery wyandottes with single combs

Vamvakas, would you please post again in 3-4 weeks? I'd love to see what this bird turns out to be.

I'm personally not seeing any wyandotte there. That head is all wrong and truthfully kinda freaky looking--the vulture reference is not wrong! I'm also wondering about hatchery quality dark cornish or something else gamey. I'd love to see a pic later.

If this chick is a Wyandotte, I'll rehome her. I do not like the breed at all. I just culled one due to being an internal layer, she amazingly had 20 full cooked looking full sized yolks in her . She was a feather picker too. They are beautiful, but not for me. Unless its a Wyandotte cross. My neighbor has a BLRW and I'd hatch chicks from him to keep, he's beautiful. I really do like crosses.

I was just thinking the same thing, cause that weird looking bald head doesn't look like any chicken I've ever seen. I would keep it just to see what it grows up to be

Yep, I've experienced this firsthand. I ordered 11 silver laced from My Pet Chicken and got a single combed hen. It shows up sometimes in wyandottes. Some breeders think keeping a single combed helps increase fertility or something?

Yeah I was thinking more of a game bird also cause "it" (the chick) is very small compared to the other chicks I have... But on mcmurrays website I couldnt find this chick that I have.. I'm telling you the chick matures very slow and dosnt grow, but I'll post a pic like 2-3 weeks

When I first saw the chick I thought it looked like a Malay or Shamo or one of the other oriental game birds. Very perhistoric-looking. I also just checked McMurray and they don't sell them, just a BBR Modern Game, whick is very close but they should have a straight comb and this def looks pea/cushion/strawberry. Curious.

I also thought a really ugly (sorry) Dark Cornish? The comb is right and maybe its ust the teenager phase? I will go with this as my default becasue nothing else comes close.
