What is "Too Many Roosters"?

Discussion in 'Managing Your Flock' started by ShelbyCoral, Mar 12, 2014.

  1. I have thought about this many times, what is too many Roosters? I have 3 at the moment and have more on the way. I dont eat my birds because I rescue and train them to be nice chickens for people in my neighborhood (Easy). But I'm will eventually have allot of roosters... All Roosters I have stay in one place with no Hens to look at and fight over. So, in other words, is there such a thing as too many Roosters? [IMG][IMG]

There is no single answer. There isn't too many until they start to fight. I've had a group together with no hens around and it went well for a while till they kept one from eating and he died.
The breed often makes a big difference but any breed may be encouraged to fight.
If you have games, they'll fight.

Traditionally 1 rooster to 10 hens so the means around 9 become dinner for somebody.
