What is up with Marans?

You're right - Wellies can lay some nice dark eggs, so they are definitely a good choice for those wanting gorgeous, dark eggs. I have/had both breeds (Wellies and Marans) and I have to say that I like the temperament/personality of the Marans better. I got both breeds from breeders with well-respected lines, so they were nice quality birds, though I didn't pay a fortune for them at all. Of course, it's possible that others have had different experiences.

That's exactly how mine were, yet I raised them exactly the same. They've all been good layers, though.

LOL me I'm just reading the marans club list and waiting for Ione's birds to grow up and then I'm gonna sponge off all her hard work.

I really like the look of Marans but Rocks are my primary interest so I'm just going to hang out and wait while all the super neat people I know that bought eggs or chicks last year have them grow out and start to lay. I'd rather work with friends and BYCers, than anyone else anyway.

I like the look of the eggs yep, but I also really like the birds, handsome animals.

Truth be told it's those golden cuckoo ones that REALLY make me go...
