Ok... I have an older edition. I wanted to buy one at Barnes and Noble, and they told me that I couldn't. Huh? It isn't a book?

So I went online to Amazon and the best I found was a 1916 edition. Oh COME ON!
SO I went directly to the site. They want.....

APA Color Standard $59.00

But they shall throw the shipping in for free. Are you kidding me? We are talking about chickens here, not diamond rings.
For $60 I can have my child in day care for a week, I could buy 3 mo. worth of feed for my vast amounts of Chickens!
I could....write a post on backyard chickens and tell everyone how wrong this is!
I am NOT about copy right infringements, I do NOT wish to steal information or photographs, but seriously.....can we say MONOPOLY?

When you are the only place that people can get information from, and you are the ONLY experts?

I think that is kinda wrong....especially considering your membership has been down three years running while the poultry hobby has regained huge interest?!?

I don't think that people who wish to raise chickens in order to SAVE money are interested in your $59 book.

But of course I am NOT an expert...People can read my opinons for free, they do NOT have to pay for a $60 book.

Apparently you've never bought a textbook. I spend over a $100 for a textbook I will use for a 8 or 16 week class and after that in many cases it's useless. You don't really get to determine how much something is worth. Either you buy it or you don't. That's the way of the world.

I find I'll get much more use out of my APA Standard of Perfection and it was well worth the $60. I refer to it often in my own research and use it as a handy tool. The fact that it is hard cover and has color photos is a plus. Like someone else suggested, if you can't afford it, buy the B&W copy, which is very economical. Or you could make your own, copyright it and sell it at whatever price you think is fair.

I am with you. It is time that ordinary everyday people are NOT denied information by their ability to pay. The dinosaurs became extinct because they could not change to adapt to their world. Let the APA become extinct.

I am sick of being treated so poorly so by my ability to pay. I have heard it said that if they could poke holes in the sky, they would charge us for the sunlight.

Actually I have my Bachelor of Science and am working on my MBA, so I have purchased MANY text books. It simply isn't the same thing. A text book vs. a book about chickens?

I didn't know there was a B & W edition, and I am sure that is the route I will go.

I completly agree LadyHawke1!
The American Rabbit Breeders Association, the American Sheep Breeders Association and the like charge around $25 for their standards. Considering an "expensive" chicken is about $20-30 bucks....it seems pretty silly to me!

And here is the crazy thing..they probably arent even making a profit......Things are actually expensive to make if you dont make them in China. This book has an extremely small audience and so cant be printed in practical numbers.

The besr book that I was able to find on chicken gentics, its new and written by a dutch woman and a british man, is $100 and I think theyare just trying to get the info out.

some of the out of print gentics books are 4-500 dollars on amazon

I know it is BAD.

Especcially when you can find and/ print ALL of the cat breed standards online for free. And they are full color

There are more cat lovers than chicken lovers.
