2-3 year old hen. Just finds an out of the way corner in coop or yard and sits. Currently placing food and water near her during the day.

Looks like scaly leg mites and some overgrown curled toenails. I have a chicken occasionally like that who doesn’t seem to wear down her toenails and needs them trimmed. That is also the one who has leg mites. You can soak the legs in warm Epsom salts or soapy water for 15 minutes, and use a toothbrush gently on the legs to loosen the scales. Dry legs and then apply an oil of choice—castor or mineral oil, vaseline, Nustock cream, or vegetable oil twice a week until the new scales grown back. Dog nail clippers can be used to slightly trim the nails a little at a time, since they can bleed if too much is cut off.
