Hi all, just wondering if someone can help me please!

One of my baby chicks, around 12/14 weeks old, has the past day not been able to fly or jump up. The chick is fluffed up like it’s cold for most of the day, it still free ranges round the garden and ive give it some food and water, but apart from that it’s unable to jump up to move round the garden and can’t jump up to roost either. We have 6 other chicks and they all seem ok, ive checked it’s wings and they seem fine as well, no sign of injury anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome To BYC

Can you post photos of the chick and her poop?

What do you feed, including treats?
Where are you located in the world?

Have you looked her over for injury, swelling of the joints of the legs?
Hi,

I can post some tomorrow as theyre all the in coop!
We feed them a mixture oh starter food and grains, and for treats we give them the extra veg out of our garden such as cucumber, grapes and zucchini
I’m in North Italy! Yes we opened up both wings and had a look under its chest, no sign of anything anywhere! The only thing that looks different is the fur on the chicks head seems a bit greasy?

It may be a good idea to go out there now and investigate further. See what's on the head that makes it look greasy. Possibly an injury (blood)?
Could the chick have suffered head trauma.

You'll want to make sure the chick is hydrated too. Most chicks that are sick or injured don't eat or drink very well unless prompted.

Since you are in Italy, if you find you need to treat for Coccidiosis, then you may need to see a vet. You might be able to find Harker's Coxoid in pet shops.

Ive parted the feathers and checked today and there’s no blood there. Not sure, they are mixed with the bigger hens and rooster, but they all get on well together! Yes I was with the chick this afternoon making sure it had food and water, so I’ll make sure I carry on doing so.
Thanks a lot for the advice, I’ll send pictures in tomorrow

what could be the reason for the chick being unable to fly all of a sudden? It does try to jump up to follow its mum but it’s unable to☹️

Go to your local store for your chickens and buy some protein packs they are n small packets they have a baby chick on them. Sometimes all they need is a little extra vitamin cause they got a small sickness or they just need it !! Hope your baby is better
