Ever since yesterday my 4 and a half week old duckling Bubbles has been acting strange. First off watch this video: http://youtube.com/#/watch?feature=plcp&v=KiIgtJIdRC0

She is breathing with her mouth open a lot and not peeping too much. Also the other thing that is weird is normally she will follow me everywhere, staying right next to my feet, but today she will follow me then all the sudden turn around and start running the opposite way with her mouth open wide and go lay down behind trees. What's wrong with her?

Could you give me a search term to use in Youtube, because when I click on the link I just get the main page, not your video.

Sorry about that. Just go to YouTube and type in "duckman4450" and you should see the video called "duck breathing with mouth open"

That is what my ducks do when they are too hot, anxious and/or out of sorts.

For example, Fünfie does that when she is broody, sitting on the nest, sometimes. The nest is in a shelter that is around 65 or 70 degrees F, not exactly steamy.

Alright thanks, and yeah. Her house is only 70 degrees under the light, and she sleeps outside of the light and she's only 4 weeks. And, even though she doesn't use the light, if I turn it off she peeps until I turn it on for her. Weird!

My runners HATE the dark, have since day one. So, since I am an indulgent Mutter Ente (mother duck), they always have some sort of night light. I have used the top of a solar path light. It casts just enough light to comfort them, I think.

Do you think of getting her a duck partner?
