What is wrong with this chick?

Hi, I am a newbie hatcher...

This chick is different from my other giant cochins...He came into the world with very little down, and still has very short, almost nonexistent feathering on his back and head. Is this a genetic defect, or a hatching problem? Thanks!!!

PS - he/ she is 3 weeks old!!!

Chick looks fairly normal to me...

I guess the photo is not the best...he is featherless under the wings...skin and pimples. His fluff is hard and stiff and not growing like his siblings who hatched.

maybe if you post of pic of them side by side we could tell what you are talking about. looks normal to me

I'll bet it's a little cockerel....I had one with that exact same problem. He took a long time to feather out, but eventually he was just fine!
