? What is wrong with this comb?

So it won't kill Her (she is a Hen, btw.. huge comb on her.. she lays white eggs too, so I really know she is a girl..)

She is very flighty and hates to be approached or picked up. If I left it alone, would it be ok? Seems that catching her and pinning her down might stress her out.. and it's so cold I don't want to stress them and get them sick.. or is that not an issue??

Well, the only thing about leavin it alone is that it can get infected and kill her. It is dead rotten tissue stuck to her head... Its best if ya get 'em at night when there roostin, they wont be as wild, and it wont stress 'em out as bad.

I would leave the comb alone. Don't cut it. Get her some Blu Kote and spray it. Be careful not to get it into her eyes. This should help keep it from getting infected. It should heal. ACTUALLY, if you can use another opinion...just "maybe," a roo has been grabbing ahold of her comb? The scabs are indicative of this. The black does resemble frostbite a bit but the scabby part is too clean. It could be a combination of a bit of each. The best thing you can do for her is leave it alone and spray it with blu kote, while protecting her eyes.

Chickens do not like the taste of blu kote so IF a roo is a little too rough with her, he will start grabbing her someplace near the back of the neck a little more and leave her comb alone.

I'll look into that, thanks. My only roo is a 1/4 size bantam. She is a full size Hen. Not sure he's doing much of anything..
