My most favorite breed this week is Black Copper Marans. They are quite trendy, true, BUT...........they are beautiful, just beautiful. They are docile and quiet, but still active. They are smart, you can see it in their expressions, the eggs earn you bragging rights with your friends, and they think you are all that with your knowledge gleened from this forum about Marans. They are a good size and grow quite fast, but the Wheatens and Cuckoos grow even faster and that is a great trait for those you eat. My Marans hens are not as good at a daily egg as a Rhode Island Red, but they are not far behind. The have oh so cute chicks, and most important, they make you feel proud when you are showing off your flock. Yes, this week it is definitely BC Marans.

My favorite breed would be. . . Shamos. Quite a different bird from other people's favs so far, but how could I resist such a powerful, athletic, lean, and majestic looking bird?

Course, there are so many others I love as well, but I think the Shamo would top the list.
