what is your favorite breed of chicken

Well, it has to be Marans. I love the challenge, the dark brown eggs and my Hen Patty who alway, always comes to talk with me and lets me pet her. And I can't leave out my blind hen Helen who has survived much and is still thriving. She melts my heart.

Next it is Ameracaunas--which I would never have thought. I didn't even really like them at first. But now I am hooked. Probably because my splash girl sits and talks to me as if I really understand and can talk back.

Delaware, they are the most curious, little tagalongs ever. Where I go, they go. It's like having a kid brother again.

Oh my gosh! How could I decide? I love my RIRs for the tons of beautiful eggs they give me, my BRs for the HUGE eggs they give me (+ they are just so darn good looking), course my Orps are gorgeous too and they make such good mommas and they lay all through winter for me. My Brahmas were so darn pretty but laid little eggs (but who can resist their friendly nature and cute feathered feet?), my Ameraucanas will someday give me "oh so cute" blue eggs (I can't wait!), my Marans give me the most beautiful eggs (seriously) I have ever seen and they are the most well behaved and regal birds I have ever owned, I can't even tell when they are laying they are so quiet! Had leghorns and EEs before and they were precious too...

I give up! There's no way I can decide. I want them all and then some! Next I want Barnevelders and Welsumers and more EEs and more Marans, oh and then I want...

Having only had four breeds to date, I have to say Orpingtons. They stole my heart from the very first chick, and it looks like my heart will always be possessed by them. I enjoy all of my girls, but Orpingtons will always hold first place in my coop. They're just such a friendly, outgoing, personable bird.

Of all my batch (BO, BA, and BR), I am most fond of the Black Australorps--always friendly and funny! But of course I love them all.
