I love my buff orp girls. They were never lap chickens but I didnt' want lap chickens when they were chicks. They follow me around and one is my buddy. She visits and talks to me while I'm working in my shop or the yard. They all like to see what's going on from time to time. They "help" me and love to take walks in the front yard with me. They absolutely know the boundaries and how far they are allowed to go.
My 7 week old black orps gather on my shoulders every evening before they go back in the brooder and grind their big heads on my neck and in my hair in an effort to get under momma's feathers. They don't all fit so I back up to a wide roost that the big girls don't use. They don't really like being in my lap very long but do jump up there for brief visits and a bit of back/ear rubbing when I sit down.
