What is your favorite hatchery?

If you order from a hatchery, they usually have a minimum -- 15 or 25, depending on the season. That is why lots of people like to get the chicks in smaller numbers at the feed store (TSC). If you split the order with a friend, or can handle a lot of chicks, a hatchery is easy. Pick them up at the post office in a box. Even if you order pullets, you will get some males. Often, more than you want! If you want to eat the roosters, get straight run. If you just want a rooster, don't worry, you will get at least one in an order!
I got chicks from Murray McMurray in the 80's, they are still in business. I lived in California, they are in Iowa. All were fine when I got them, I ordered 50, got lots of extras. I had chicken! It is just as easy to raise 50 as 25, I think.

I ordered from McMurray some years ago for my mom who lived in Puerto Rico. Amazingly, McMurray mailed the chickens to PR and there was minimum loss of life. There was a total of 50 ordered, with only 4 deaths, DOA. They grew healthy, and very pretty. Not sure how McMurray is now. For once, I have noticed that they have a more limited variety than they used to. I'm thinking on refreshing my flock, and I'm reading the different reviews to see if I find a great place to order from. I had checked Ideal a few years ago, but didn't order from them - they have kept sending me their emails with specials ever since. :)
