  • What would be your suggestions for a backyard setting? That depends on the backyard..is it enclosed with good fencing, does it border many neighbors and their pets, border a forest, do you have any guardian animals, etc. ?
  • How old do you typically butcher them? I butcher mine at 10 weeks but it varies from person to person, depending on preference.
  • How many batches of 10 birds could you raise in a 12 month period and are chicks always available? That depends on how long you will keep them before processing and, yes, chicks are always available, depending on the hatchery you use.

Thanks for all the info you guys provide!!!!

Thanks for the info! Do you like the Freedom Rangers?
The backyard is fenced properly and is in the city with close neighbors. no guardian animals but the birds will be in an enclosed run top to bottom.

Another thing I read is that even if I did get eggs from my cornish cross they wouldn't hat h out the same thing as what there parents are being the second generation, is there any truth to that? What breeds of hen and rooster would I need to collect some. Cornish cross eggs?

Well all the. Cornish cross are in the freezer and I am doing some duel purpuse birds, what is the fastest growing breed that I can raise myself? Is it possible to create Cornish cross mix at home and incubate?

One of our favorites is the Cornish Game Hen. Also called Rock Cornish. Described in Wikipedia as:

"a young immature chicken (less than five weeks of age), weighing not more than two pounds ready-to-cook weight, which was prepared from a Cornish chicken or the progeny of a Cornish chicken crossed with another breed of chicken."

"Wonderful stuffed with wild grain rice and basted in a honey / butter / orange curacao sauce! "
