Hello to everyone as this is my first post! my question is last night something dug under my chicken pen and killed 5 of my 3 month old chickens. what i dont understand is whatever it was killed but did not eat my oldest asil pullet and left it in the pen, I found long grayish blackish redish hair on the wire where it got it. If yall might know please tell me so i can keep this from happening again. what was killed was 1 asil pullet the others was black hatch, and kelso/sweater cross stags. and the little pullet was my favorite chicken named chicken little. but i live in north east texas and dont know what it could have been....maybe a coon or fox or possum idk. but any info would be greatly appreciated thank you i never thought of a dig barrier as it has 4 by 4 post all around the bottom

Was there not a dig barrier? Do they not have a coop for nighttime? If not, then it will happen again. The hair color sounds like a fox to me. Sounds like you probably should rethink your setup.

i was just walking around the woods and found a wing to one of them about. what i dont understand is there is hardly any feathers or anything around the pen

fox, maybe with kits. one attack and losing 5 that were carried off suggests a fox with kits. a single fox would kill what it could eat. more fox the more you lose. a racoon might have killed 5 but you would have found 3 or 4 bodies in the pen the next morning.
