It sounds like a dog to me. Sometimes they will chase a chicken away from the area while trying to catch it then they kill it there and you can't find it. It will probably take some of the dead chickens back to its house. Check your neighbor's yards. Very sorry for your loss. I know it is disgusting.

The only way I have successfully kept my chickens safe is from two things:

I use those blinking solar powered red lights at night (well they come on at dusk). I had raccoon and other night time predators in the past. I decided to try them and they work and have worked for ten years.

I have them strung up all over my chicken yard. I have watched huge raccoons walk all over my property and never go near the chicken yard.

The other thing I do for day time predators is



I've run poultry netting over the entire top of the yard. I have two coops in the yard but most of the chickens like to sleet in the trees.

The chickens have the run of the yard, so I don't have to worry about giving them outside time.

These two methods have kept them very safe. It has worked well for me and my girls.

I don't think I've ever seen a weasel in CT. Although, it would fit otherwise.

Other animals seen in our area: Opossums, bobcats, mountain lions. raccoons, (in CT! lol)

Not only are there bobcats in Connecticut there are rabid bobcats in the Nutmeg State as well, why who would have thunk it?

Whoa So not good! I'd bet you 10 to 1 its somebodies dog. I am in deep mourning myself. I caught a nice big red fox in my pen. I went outside to walk my new maltipoo pup, and not 1 1/2 yards from my house sits my chicken/duck pens. I'll be darn if that dang fox didnt have my favorite Poofie Headed Duck. I went crazy. He seen me too, but he just kept eating it. I couldnt believe it. I was ******. I ran the pup back inside, and I grabbed my gun (probably wouldn't shoot him I knew, but the thought was definitely there at the time), but I got it anyway. But...he seen me comin this time, and he took off like anything. I shot a warning shot, but I'm sure he'll be back. He seen the smorgasbord in front of him. Beats the crap out of me why he ate the duck, he had his pick of small to medium to large juicy chickens. But he chose my DUCK, my favorite duck. WHY???? AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Not that I wanted him to eat my chickens. BTW I have an electric fence with two wires! My son lets the chickens out in the morning about 7AM, I found the fox at 8 AM so he didn't waste much time. He must have been Surveiling the campus so to speak! I'm so sorry ! I know how you feel.

I have bad news. Today at 2am my chicken was found hurt. I heard her cry at around 2:45am. I forgot to close the door of there coop. My rooster was found in a corner. His ear and eye is scratched. My chicken on the other hand was eatin on her head. When we found her, she was still breathing. My dad had to put her down. Right now its 4am and I can't sleep. I'm afraid of having nightmares. I just hope my rooster is okay. He is in my garage. My mother and father tryed to make him better. I just hope he's alive when I wake up. I will never make a mistake like that again. I was and still am highly attached to both of them. I regret not closing the door of there coop. My chicken was an australorp. My rooster is a Leghorned rooster. I'm 13 years old, turning 14 next march. I really hope that something like this never happens in my life again. I now know that anyone can get highly attached to (a) animal(s). @Bockbock3043... I'm really sorry. We all make mistakes so don't beat yourself up. It's not like you did it on purpose and didn't care. We have to learn from our mistakes and move on. It's the people who don't learn from their mistakes that have the problem. Sending you a hug.
