The dreadful day happened when one of my hens was attacked. I feel horrible, blaming myself running over all the what ifs. What if I was out there, what if I called them over in enough time for them to leave the area they were in. Regardless, something got her - most likely a hawk. My other two chickens were alright, minus one missing a few feathers. A pile of my roosters feathers were about 20 ft from where my girls feathers were. We found her laying in the woods about 15-20 ft from where she was attacked by the tree line. I just hope my poor girl wasn’t suffering. It happened in the 30 minutes I saw her on camera, to when we went outside. Graphic pictures and I’m sorry, do these wounds look like a hawk? Her neck was wobbly, most likely broken. I’m just trying to piece together what may have done this or what happened. The heart ache and not having closure is the worst.
