I just lost my first duck . She was an adult female. We live in the country so I always have my eye out for predators. I'm at a loss of what could have gotten her because it was the middle of the day. She had a massive chunk out of her neck, the meat was gone and I could see her insides but she was still walking around like she was fine! I could see her heart beating! We had to shoot her it was awful. Because the wound was so big it has to be a bigger predator. It couldn't have been a dog because my dog would have chased it off. I have pictures but it's pretty gruesome and I'm not sure if I should post it. Any thoughts?

Also we have a pond but if it was snapping turtle wouldn't it have just drowned her instead of going for her neck?

Now that I've thought about it I'm wondering if it was an eagle? has anyone else had an eagle get their ducks?

Our neighbor had a skunk reach thru a small hole in the wire and strip the meat right off a hens leg, but that was at night. Sounds like a cat attack? They usually go for a neck, and if it's hungry enough it may try in daylight.

There's no way even a big cat could have taken out that big of a chunk and held it down. Unless it was a bobcat but I believe they are nocturnal?
