Hi everyone,
Sad moment for me today, when i went to fill up the chicken feeder this evening i noticed my black rooster was killed and laying against the chicken wire fence.
It was 6 months old and growing into a beautiful rooster, it was one of my five chickens i hatched with my incubator this year. When i inspected the body I noticed Its big comb was completely gone and a chunk from its back / tail was missing. Bit off ? furhter most of his feathers where still there and i could not really find the cause of death. also no feathers scattered arround and no blood on the ground. No obvious wounds in the neck or something but some of the neck feathers where standing up a bit. he was healthy so no disease that could've killed him.
Now i do have 2 other brown roosters that where hatched the same time as him and 1 old 3yo rooster who is the father of them. But they always got along and there was no sign of a fight between them. The other roosters are completely fine with no missing feathers or wounds. And they always are docile. No other chickens of my flock got hurt and i have not had a problem with predators killing before.
A month or 3 back i did have a problem with a small family of about 3-5 rats that where eating the chickens their food. They where hunt down and i now have several rat bait stations in the area of the coop in case they return. so far im currently 2 months rat free.
So does anyone know what animal could've killed him ? Thank you already for taking your time to read this post. Much appreciated !
Sorry for my bad writing skills.
Warning : graphic photos of the wounds
