What kind of bird is this? A Grackle?

A flock of these birds have been going crazy on the dog food at our place. They're also QUITE LOUD all day long.

WhatBird.com says these are most likely Great Tailed Grackles, which would be fine if these were at all purple.

What do you think?

Yes. They are Grackles.

The purple in grackles is not quite like the purple in the illustration, it is more of an iridescence.

I think of Grackles as sort of the hoards of locusts of the bird world.

I raised an orphaned one several years ago, and whenever I see some, I think fondly of Birdy.
He was SO smart!

I do not look kindly on grackles.

They roost in all our evergreen trees, dive bomb our pond with their babies fecal sacs, or line the stones of the pond with the fecal sacs

But they are sooo talkative! We've got a whole flock here, black adults, brown juveniles - all chowing down on the dogs food. If he tries to eat any? They yell at him and he runs away. Big ole' husky. So Sad.
