When you say they will start crowing young.......I'm wondering how young. We received an "extra" in our shipment of CX from McMurray hatchery. Its an Egyptian Fayomi and it is 6weeks old. This evening I was shocked to see this little bugger practicing what sounded like maybe a crow!!! Crossing my fingers hoping its a hen that is just feeling spunky. At 6wks!!!That is an egyptian fayomi hen or pullet. My daughter showed them in 4H. They're quick, tough little birds, and hard to catch! Lay a small off white egg, and mature earlier than most (the roosters will start trying to crow really young). Although we don't have any now, we always liked them. An appenzeller spitzhaben, I believe, has feathers sticking up on it's head.
I live in a small town and have neighbors close. I can't have chickens that are too loud or aren't happy to stay close to home. I like to let them out now and then to run around the yard and I can't have any wanting to jump the fence and the like.
