What kind of dishwasher do you have?

Are you using white vinegar? That's what I've always heard to use, and what I use in our coffee maker. There is a new product out that is supposed to clean the dishwasher but since vinegar is so cheap I'll stick with that.

One more thing... I have found that if we use too much detergent in this dishwasher it will put a nasty film all over the dishes. I can only fill one tray up, and mine seems to work better without the rinse aid. Go figure.

If you have public water, i doubt you have any of these issues. If you dont buy softener salt or have 1 or 2 water like tanks hooked up to your water lines, i doubt you have a water softening system. If you have well water, you could have some degree of hard water. If you need to know you can go to sears and bring in a sample and have them test it.

When i brought mine in, trying to use the guys determination as a tool for picking a softener to buy.. he ran out of drops after like 120 and quit.. i would say mine is SEVERE LMAO!

I can use vinegar for my coffee pot but i have to use about a gallon or two because i have to run it through so much. so i stopped using our water for coffee .. we dont have a reverse osmosis hooked up for drinking so we take water cooler jugs and refill them at a local spring and use that.

ok back on topic-- im not sure if vinegar would work for you but it IS cheap, so give it a try. the dishwasher cleaner products are under $4. the one with the wax plug at walmart i actually used 2 or 3 times. i just bought the new electrosol one, and i havent used it yet. i bought anotehr thing i think its something like llime something, also cheap and you CAN use it while you wash dishes.. it works ok.

Good luck!

Had an old KitchenAid in Ct & loved it. Moved to SC, bought a new house and went through two General Electrics in about 15 years, and hated both of them. The door springs kept breaking, which was annoying and eventually got expensive to fix. Don't even ask why we bought the second GE, just dumb I guess. Finally bought another KitchenAid and loved it again. Retired to TN, built another house, and ALMOST went with Bosch, but liked the KitchenAid better; it just seemed sturdier and better built. Still love it. I think you probably wouldn't go wrong with either Bosch or KitchenAid, but I wouldn't touch GE with a 10 foot pole, and I have never used a Kenmore so don't know about them. Love my Kenmore washers and dryers, though.

We had to purchase 2 DW just yesterday. We ordered ours a few weeks ago and the day after that our tenants called and said theirs died also.

We bought an LG for ourselves and a cheaper GE for them. It has a slight blemish on one corner so Home Depot made us a deal of $229. Not bad. I haven't read this entire thread but does anyone here have an LG?
