hello I’m new to the site, I have 8 red comet chickens and we just got our first duck from a family friend, question I have is what kind is it? I’m familiar with mallards, but I know they got it from tractor supply as a chick about a year ago around Mother’s Day. Is this a mallard/Rouen etc? I’m asking because we want to get another duck for him to hang out with and not sure what kind to get, Thanks!

He looks like a Khaki Campbell drake to me! You could get him any type of lady friends though Khakis are great layers if you are interested in the egg aspect of duck ownership :)

Edited to add: Welcome to BYC!!!!

He is in his separate run I have the chickens and ducks seperated, if that is the case can the second duck be male? I get 8 eggs a day from my 8 chickens. I do not plan on getting many ducks so egg laying is not a necessity for us. Let me know your thoughts, Thanks

Yes top post correct and welcome to BYC! Hope you enjoy your time here! :frow
Khaki Campbell. You'll need to get him a girlfriend "breed doesn't matter" or he'll terrorize your hens trying to breed them.

I would not add a second drake. The really tear each other up. I had a couple Magpie drakes, brothers, in together. They were separate from the rest of the group because they were too rough on the girls. They were the best of friends... until they weren't. Come Spring, they tore each other to pieces. If you don't have the room, or the need, for a second duck, I'd try to find him a new home or perhaps have him for dinner.
Also, I don't know what area you are in, but in my neck of the woods, duck eggs sell for upwards of $6 a dozen!

I was originally leaning towards another Drake because we get plenty of eggs from the chickens already in the other run. But I’m seeing some saying that if I put another drake in with my drake they will tear each other up. Didn’t think they would because of the fact there wouldn’t be any hens in with them.
