We are just running out of our first 50lb bag of medicated starter feed. I am going to get another bag this weekend, but I don't know whether I should get the medicated or not. What are the pros and cons of feeding medicated food to adolescents? I've seen on here that the "medicated" food is not an antibiotic, but what is it? Are there any other types of prepared foods we should begin to introduce as they approach laying age, but before they start laying?

At 12 or 13 weeks, yes, most folks stop with the medicated feed.

I'd feed them a flock raiser/all flock type feed, or a non-medicated Grower feed. Even if you don't finish the bag precisely at the point they begin to lay, it is very good to just continue one with it. You can offer shells on the side, once they are 17-18 weeks old. If their bodies are craving calcium, they'll eat them, otherwise, they'll just ignore them.
