What kind of fence do you have....

What type/kind/size fencing do you use for your run. There are so many different ones trying to choose what is best. We live I. The woods(literally). Lots of predators... raccoons to fox to coyotes to hawks and many more. Trying to find a good fence to use.

Hardware cloth is you new best friend lots of fence posts or wood and nothing can really stop a bear but 6 lines of electric wire hysterical.gif

I used 1/2 in hardware cloth around the bottom half & then as an apron around the outside. I used 1x2 welded wire for the top half of the run. I know most use hardware cloth for everything but I only did it on the bottom where something could reach in & grab them. Up at the top I like the wider holes so I can see in better. It will keep any predators I have around here out (except mice, nothing will keep them out!). & the welded wire is cheaper.

My inner defense is 1/2" HC where they roost at night. The run is 2" x 4" welded wire fence. The chicken yard is chain link with 3 hot wires, one down real low, one about a foot up and one just below the top. The bottom wire seems to get tested more than the others...

The 2x4 welded is what I am looking at for the run. They will be closed in at night. Thanks

I have both regular chicken wire (cheap) and hardware cloth. If you have predators with strong bites that can tear through netting, you can use reinforcing mesh as a second security, works both above and below ground. Cheaper than welded wire fence, but not as pretty.
