what kind of fish would work in a 5 gallon aquarium??

Please don't get glofish, they are genetically modified zebra danios, and regardless of how you feel about that, they will breed in your tank, which is technically illegal, because they are a proprietary organism.

Besides, regular zebra danios are nicer looking.

DO NOT put goldfish in there, goldfish are actually large, long-lived fish that need at least 10g per fish. They only look small because the ones in the fish store are babies. People throw a goldfish in a 2g bowl and they live for 2 years or so, but in a proper tank with a filter, they will live for 10-20 years, and grow to be enormous. It is cruel to put them in too small of a tank. They may seem fine, but their growth will be stunted, and their lives shortened.

If I had an extra 5g tank, I would get a Betta or a few ghost shrimp.

Mosquito Fish. You can put alot in. Some people say 3 or four, i say that is bull you could put like 10 or so in if you keep the water quality up. All i have is fry or else id totally try to help you .

Thats a tight squeeze!!

Wouldnt you have to be cleaning that CONSTANTLY?!

I agree. Tight

Imagine two grown men living out their entire lives lives in a Taco Bell restroom.

I have some danio's, tiger barb and a koolie in mine.

I also have 2 turtles I found in my yard hatching in my garden last summer.

I have a 10 gallon hex tank though.

I wouldn't put more than 1 fish in a 5 gallon unless you have extremely GREAT filtration. I'd recommend a betta AND some ghost shrimp. I currently have a betta in my 2.5 gallon toilet tank.... I rehomed the 2 Glo fish you see in the pic(top of tank) since they needed heat and my tank isn't designed to have a heater. Yes it is a working functional toilet in my bathroom.

Beta or a pair of guppies, but that's about it. Not a goldfish. Yeah, those cheap feeders are an inch long, but given proper conditions and life, they live about 25 years and reach 12-18 inches long in the common type...and that is longer than a 5 gallon tank... Unfortunately, most goldfish are seen as disposable.
