What kind of flooring do you all have in your coops?

Sand in the coop and in the run AND in my ducks house... Easy to scoop the poop up with kitty litter scoops! I went to a rock and materials yard and got concrete sand. I havent tried anything else because it works soooo well!

Thanks Jordi. The litty litter scoops sounds great, but what material do you have for a actual floor? I am new and am trying to picture it all. So can you use it then for fertilizer? Or add water make some funky concrete? Ha !

The floor in my coop is plywood covered (glued down) with FRP wallboard. (Pebbled Plastic Wallboard)

Then filled with washed construction sand mixed with Sweet PDZ.

Sorry about that... I have plywood floor painted so it lasts a little longer with any moisture that might accumulate in the sand (which so far I have zero problems with)

Oh and I scoop the poop with my little litter scoopers and throw it all in the compost bin...

Yes I've read quite a few byc posts about them using linoleum on top of the wood and then sand or whatever... Some of the coop forums show them putting it about four inches up the wall also so, if they ever needed to, they could get the hose and spray it out.

I started out with shaving and discovered quickly there had to be a better way. I now have sand inside and out. It's wonderful. I've got wire all around the bottom tacked down so no predators can dig in then put several layers of sand. Once you use sand you won't change back to shavings. When I rake the pen and house I shift it all through chicken wire on my wheelbarrow to save the excess sand. Amazing how much sand is thrown out if you don't. I just put the sand back in holes the chickens have dug. They especially love digging in the house where the sand is cooler.
