im sorry barefoot but i would take offence if approached that way and quite honestly most people simply shut down/ignore postings and"advice" given in such a manner....
more flys with honey than vinegar being a good line here...
without knowing any facts on these goats you assumed the OP had not had them checked by a vet ect and assumed they neded a verbal reaming to get the point across...
a simple, "from that picture id say the brown one has a serious case of pole worm and if it hasnt already it needs to see a vet as its life threatening" would have been a million times more effective.
im sure you didnt mean for your post to come across as belittling or mean, BUT that is how it reads.
for example, i picked up 2, 4 week old puppy up off the side of the road not too long back...
he was covered in fleas, and had a belly full of worms...no signs of tape, and given the bloating i knew it was either hook, whip or round (and probably a combination)
his brother had a 3 inch open wound (umbilicle hernia) and was in serious condition
i was a vet tech and i immediatly took them to the vet...no sooner did i walk through the door that one of the techs began belittling me, screaming at me for the condition of the pups, "omg they have serious fleas" and "why havent you dewormed them" and this is this and that is that and they need need need...she treated me like i was a peice of poop stuck to her shoe...NO information on the history of the pups, no idea who i am (never been to that vet before as im new to the area) and instead of taking a breath and finding out exactly what the situation was, she decided to scream at me to the point i was close to tears (i have social anxiety disorder)...and i simply walked out and took them to another vet on the opposite side of town.
had she taken a moment to find out the information BEFORE spouting off her vast aount of knowedge she would have known i found them aproximatly 15 minutes prior, rescued them from the highway and have a veterinayry medicine background and thats WHY i acted so quickly at getting them to a vet.
she lost my respect for her and my business for the surgery simply because she ASSUMED...
you did the same with that post, you assumed as to what the op had and hadnt done and aproached it in a rather visious way.
yes its serious...but stating "its a life threatening condition" is also a good way to get across that this isnt something to just "see what happens"
people tend to listen better, read through an enitre post more frequently and listen when aproached in a respectfull way...
treating me like a 5 year old without a clue isnt going to make me continue reading, and most will just skim over a post that starts that way...
we have to rememer that this is a faceless internet forum and TONE is not easily conveyed...what im sure was meant to convey concern and urgency to me instead came across belittling and angry...
