I have been using a water bowl on an elevated surface but my chickens need a hanging waterer. I don't want to use plastic (we get very HOT here) and the metal ones are kinda spendy. Anyone have any good ideas before I go out and fork out the bucks for a galvanized watere for 5 chickens?

Those galvanized waterers are great! I think ckix are worth every penny spent on them! I don't hang mine, though. I put mine up on cement blocks to help keep out bedding and other junk. I put a few cloves of fresh garlic in the water to help control internal parasites.

I have been having problems when I buy the galvanized ones lately. I just bought one last summer, new and the sucker is leaking already. I have pretty much just stopped using them and have gone to plastic one gallon waterers in the winter with waterer heaters in the coop, and I use large black rubber bowls outside in the summer. I never used to feed and water outside, but I have started watering outside and keep feeding inside. They like to have the fresh water int he bowls every night, and they can stand in it which they like in the summer, and it doesnt get wood shavings in the water or water in the shaving in the coop...which I like!
