Those look like red roost mites, and permethrin should kill them. What have you been using?

I've been using the spray on the coops. I've been cleaning the coops, rinsing with water then I spray them down completely with the Pen Poultry spray. I waits for it to dry then I use the Poultry Dust as well to mix with the mini-shavings that I use inside the coop and around the flooring, in their dust baths, and on the hens (especially near the vent, under wings, and near the neck).

They seemed to be dwindling down last time* I did the treatment but this time they look 2x as bad. Is it normal for it to get worse before it gets better? Am I missing something?

I am not educated on pests at all, but i would assume it would be easy for them to get worse when new eggs hatch. Assuming the threatment isn't as effective on eggs. I do know that most pest treatments are recommend in stages to accommodate for this egg and hatch cycle. But i also assume you are doing by the directions so i can't assume you're doing anything wrong either.

I was thinking that, too! This is my first time dealing with mites in chickens but my husband had mites on his snake once so, I was thinking it might be similar.
