Our three chicks are in a Rubbermaid tote with 2-4" of pine shavings. I use my hand (gloved) and scrape off the top layer of shavings with their droppings in it then add more shavings. I went to the Dollar Store and found the clear plastic disposable gloves (100ct for $1) and a cat litter scoop. The scoop is too big to work in this brooder but when I move them into a larger brooder next week, I imagine I'll be using the littler scoop. I do clean the brooder every morning, give them fresh water and clean the poops out of their food dish - I use old tweezers for that. Gross little buggers. I've designated Sundays as the day to completely empty everything and start new.
