I found a few pics of black copper marans when I was looking earlier.. but this guy is closer to yours than any pics I found! Your boy is more handsome, though IMO! His hackle & saddle feathers are so beautiful. Do marans normally have feathered legs, though? It looks like the boy in the picture might, but kind of hard to tell.

Some Marans are feather legged and some clean. I'll have to wait 6mos to see what kind of babies he throws. Should be interesting!

So I'm cleaning out my (extensive) catalog pile and I pulled out the McMurray 2011 catalog which has a beeeeuuutiful photo gracing it's cover. Daggone it, it's a picture of Nocrow's brethren! hahahahahahahaha!

I'm looking high and low in the catalog for something that will tell me what the rooster on the front cover is. In the "about the cover" section they talk about the wonderful photographer who took it, gave his website, but never said WHAT the heck it was! The website was hard to navigate {and soooo distracting: http://brickhousestudios.photoshelter.com/gallery/Poultry-Portraits/G0000lN9iHCPtOeI/}... had to do a long-string google search but here it is!

Are you ready?

What an amazing shot!

Ok... so Nocrow is....

A Silver Leghorn Rooster.

OK, so I'm like, really??? a LEGHORN? Oh, alright then. Fine. So he's just a Leghorn. As pretty as he is, I thought for sure he was something - anything - other than the most common production layer in North American commercial egg farming. OK, OK, OK... if I was a show bird farmer I would have Nocrow out there winning all kinds of ribbons and whatnot for his spectacular-ness. But, here I am, just a farmrgirl who sells eggs and baby chicks to {partially} support her poultry hobby {obsession}... but wait! Couldn't I get some of those baby pullets from McMurray and sell them to show folks? Maaaaaybeee...

What d'yall think?
