what kind of rooster do i need?

I have 8 redsex link hens that just started to lay,What kind of rooster should i get to breed with them? would like them to produce some chicks wasnt sure if i need a redsex link roo or something different since redsex links are a cross of 2? thanks for any info!

Remember if you get a red sex link Roo and want to breed it with the sex link hens just remember that you will NOT get red sex link chicks!If you want more info on this then just google Red Sex Link Breeding and it will lead you too a BYC site on RSL and the third person down fourth person down will give yo more info.Hope this makes sense!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Since sex links are not purebred, they will not consistently produce offspring with the same characteristics as the parents. You may want to consider getting some purebred birds if you are interested in breeding.

Black sex link is from male RIR and a barred rock hen.

i didn't get info about Red sex link but i think its also from male RIR and barred rock hen.

Sex link chickens or hybrids cannot breed true according to the purepoultry.com.

So for me, your red sex link, the best roster would be a pure breed of your choice. .

Oh my all this breeding stuff is making my head spin. I would think when you want red sex links you have to repeat the specific cross (of 2 breeds) that produces it.
