What kind of temperment do Speckled Sussex's have?

I adored my Speckled Sussex. She followed me around like a dog and was the explorer of the group. Unfortunately I just lost her this past week. I would love to get another SS pullet but I think they are probably hard to find.

McMurry has them. Get your self a day old and spoil her too. Sorry for you loss. I'm getting really tired of people losing their chickens to predator. It's such a sad thing

I agree with everyone else...I have one roo and 4 hens. I got them last spring from McMurry. I LOVE them. They quickly became one of my favorites. They are so sweet, friendly and pretty. Good layers too! I would highly recommend them to anyone. If I could only keep one roo it would be the SS he is such a gentleman.

Ditto on the friendliness of the Speckled Sussex.
They really are almost a hazard.. you can't walk through the yard because they are trying to perch on your feet and you most certainly cannot sit down outside..you will look like a statue in the park in about 5 minutes. I have 13 SS that are a late Oct. hatch(Privett Hatchery) and they are fantastic..good foragers too. but BEWARE..they can be eye peckers. My #1 shoulder bird got DH and then me a week later. Ow! You haven't lived until you have had a hole pecked into your eyeball. So we have squelched a bit of the snuggly nature of the breed for our own survival.
