What kind of toys should I give nine chicks? Five of them are over a month old and the other four are only a few weeks, three EE two Cinnamon Queens and four cuckoo marans, they have a mirror and enjoy it and I’m about to go buy them a little soccer ball you fill with treats, I feel bad giving them nothing to do and they are very energetic. I also have a three year old hen but she doesn’t seem very active, she’s quiet and doesn’t cluck, I want to find a way to make all my chickens happy.
I’m adding in a few pictures of their current home.

Do you give them clumps of sod? Mine love the small bugs, grubs and worms. Make sure you provide grit.
I gave them a head of raw broccoli.
I also filled a plastic foot bath-size tub with sand mixed with dirt and they love to dust bathe.
I tried small balls with bells inside (cat toys) but not interested.

Thanks, I give them meal worms and dust from the barn which I pour in daily, I tried giving them pineapple but they tried it and didn’t approve, it was pretty funny

My brooder is in my office and the front of it, facing double glass doors, is covered with a plastic net. I raise and lower it to access the chicks.
Today I went outside to get them some sand but forgot to lower the net. When I came back in, I could hear wings flapping, all at once. When I got to my office doors I realized they had all flown out of the brooder - but raced back in when they heard me coming!
The evidence was the poop all over the floor. :(

Oh nooo, my chicks did that when they lived inside. But it was in the family room

So far, mine like their dust baths best.

The top of their waterer is next best. They look treat it like children with a playground slide: they hop up, gather their courage and glide down. They pivot and run back to do it again. Over and over.

Next best is to practice flying in any form... especially up onto something. They will focus on a target, then shuffle a bit, then launch.

They also like to worry at the cracks in cardboard walls. And work their way under the towel hanging down the door into their space.
